Integration Tools

This project was a rework and improvement of internal tools used by Integration Engineers with the intention of simplifying to the point that it could be opened up to self-service for our retailers.

Project Overview

One of the few parts of our internal tooling that had been developing without proper UX input was our integration tooling for external ecom platforms (e.g BigCommerce, SFCC etc), this was essentially a power-user, engineering only tool for a long while and so had been neglected. I worked with the PO responsible for the area to rework it and modernise it with our new Design System with the hope that we could get things simplified to a stage where it would like the rest of the tool, be opened up to some of our clients for self service / maintenance (albeit, ideally to their own internal engineers).

Discovery & Research

Together we conducted a few early discovery workshops and story mapping sessions with the current users and some of our less technical CS managers to understand how they were using the tool already. We found that a lot of the issues could be fairly easily solved with a properly planned Information Architecture as without our input, it had simply had features added again and again to large single pages that made it very difficult to navigate.

We used rough wireframes to validate this new flow with our internal users and they all found there to be a marked improvement. I will leave some of the artifacts that I am able to share including a video of a rough version of the initial set-up below.
